OM This Way! Hip Hop Yoga Charity Class + Live Concert

I was so grateful to attend the Yoga for A Cause event by OM This Way.  OM This Way organized a hip hop yoga class to benefit the Felix Organization at Equinox West LA on Wednesday, April 12th.

The Felix Organization is dedicated to enriching the lives of foster children through programs like Camp Felix summer camp.

“The Felix Organization was founded in 2006 by Rock ’n Roll Hall of Famer, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels and Emmy Award winning casting director, Sheila Jaffe. Both adopted and grateful to have been “taken home”, they were compelled to use their resources and experience to enrich the lives of children growing up in the foster care system. They had no idea the impact this partnership would have on the lives of so many disadvantaged children. Last summer, Felix sent our 1,000th child to Camp Felix, an overnight camp in Putnam Valley, NY designed to meet the unique needs of youth in foster care. Felix also sponsors Camp Felix West, a camp serving Los Angeles based foster youth and offers programs to help foster children in New York City to reach their dreams throughout the year.”

The class was co-lead by one of my favorite yoga instructors, Maeve McCaffrey as well as two other wonderful yogis: Aree Khodai and Kay Kay Clivio.

The event featured a live DJ set by Paris Hilton. The class was followed by a live performance by Darryl “DMC” McDaniels of RUN DMC.

He “Walked This Way” in his Adidas sneakers and reminded us he’s not only one of the kings of hip-hop but he’s the reason why Adidas is so fly. Did you know Adidas Superstar sneakers were named after his group?! (Read here)

The event stressed how important summer camp can be for a foster child that is missing out on everyday childhood experience. Former foster children shared their inspiring stories and alarming foster care statistics.

It was one of most inspiring yoga classes that I have attended. It was filled with lots of love and positive, fun energy. More importantly, it was for a really good cause. It’s amazing how doing good will make you feel good.

Whether you loved or hated summer camp, it is not too late to donate to this cause:
