AcroYoga Workshop in LA
I received an invitation to join an AcroYoga Workshop in LA with two of Los Angeles’s top yogis at Equinox Beverly Hills. It sounded terrifying but yet fascinating. My sense of adventure kicked in and I decided to attend the workshop.
I discovered AcroYoga is like yoga, acrobats, Thai massage and couples therapy mixed into one dynamic class. AcroYoga makes many poses more accessible and therapeutics than yoga practices like Vinyasa, Ashtanga or Power Yoga. Unlike practicing alone, AcroYoga teaches open communication and requires trust.

After a few warm-up exercises, the workshop started with basic poses like Seated Partner Breathing, Double Down Dog and The Front Bird. The Front Bird is a balancing pose that teaches the flyer to let go. In this particular pose, my role was the flyer and the instructor was the base (so no spotter needed, only a photographer). There was nothing “basic” about this pose and letting go was not easy for me. However, I finally give up control and was able to do this pose, which proved to be fun.

A more complicated AcroYoga pose is demonstrated below by the two Yogis: Harold Gim and Erin Grossman.
The workshop was followed by mimosa and chocolate treats! What could be better than some bubbly after an intense workout?

I am glad I pushed past my comfort zone and tried this workshop. Thanks to the instructors, I did poses I never imagined I could do. If you are tired of the same old vinyasa flow classes, I really recommend this yoga practice. So, who wants to join me for the next AcroYoga class?
