What is Hanukkah/Chanukah?

Chanukah is “The Festival of Lights. Instead of one day of presents, we have eight crazy nights!” It is a festive holiday with lots of celebrating. It celebrates a miracle where just a day’s supply of oil allowed the menorah in the Holy Temple in Jerusalem to remain lit for eight days. My favorite part of the Hanukkah is the story of Judith, Her heroic act and clever use of wine and cheese to kill the enemy’s general inspired the revolt of Jews against their enemies. Imagine learning as a young girl that sometimes it just takes one woman to save a nation.

How Hanukkah is Celebrated

Hanukkah is celebrated by lighting candles on a menorah at sundown. All the traditional foods like potato latkes and sufganiyot (jelly doughnuts) for Hanukkah revolve around oil, remembering the pure olive oil that burned miraculously for eight days. More on Hanukkah on chabad.org.

8 Easy Hanukkah Recipes to Try: Crispy Chicken With Rice, Sweet Potatoes & Lemon

Chanukah Recipes by Liz in Los angeles, Los Angeles Lifestyle Blogger. | Best Hanukkah Recipes by popular Los Angeles lifestyle blog, Liz in Los Angeles: image of Crispy Chicken with rice, sweet potatoes, and lemon.

Chicken, rice, and sweet potato slices roasted together in the oven, release juices and flavors that will make your mouth water. It’s an easy Hanukkah recipe. Most people might not opt for rice and potatoes in the same sitting, but Kim loves the contrast of the soft, buttery sweet potato slices against the bright lemons and crunchy rice. You can skip the potatoes but the experience just won’t be the same! You can use chicken pieces instead of the butterflied chicken.

The preparation for this recipe needs to be planned ahead of time but the churros will need to be fried fresh. After the recipe is frozen, it only takes a few steps to fry the churros to be eaten fresh. You will need to put the oil to start heating, light the menorah, and then when everyone is ready to eat, all you have to do is peel your churros off the parchment paper and give ’em a little oil bath!
