I hopped into Y7 Studio in West Hollywood for Hip Hop Sundays (Hip Hop Inspired Vinyasa) to flow hard.
“Yoga For People Who Put On Gangsta Rap and Handle It” — Vogue
It was for sure hip! Not only the class is hip hop inspired but hip hop is incorporated into the overall vibe of the studio including the yoga gear sold at the front desk and the decor.
The hallway to the yoga room is filled with inspirational quotes, which adds to the hip atmosphere.
The room is heated around 90 degrees. It’s dimly lit with candlelight around the room without any mirrors. It makes the class feel more zen.
Each class is themed with featured hip-hop artists like Kendrick Lamar. The yoga sequences are divided into three sections (centering, standing poses & balancing poses). For each section, the first flows are instructed at a slower pace with close attention to detail. The last flows are faster with louder music and on your own. So pay attention! Otherwise, you have to glance over at your neighbor to remember what comes next.
It was definitely “a big sweat-dripping, beat-bumping, candlelit” vinyasa class. It was hard not to sing along or shake my hips at times since the music was so good! The class was intense but in a good way. You just have to surrounder to the music and flow.
Can’t wait to go back again!
