Which spa is the best luxury spa in LA? Well, I will tell you. Tomoko Spa is the best luxury spa in Los Angeles. It’s a Japanese spa in the middle of Beverly Hills. It is where you start feeling relaxed as soon as you walk through the doors.
It is where I go for a yearly mind and body preventive maintenance – my birthday treat.
What makes this place the best luxury spa in Los Angeles is the Japanese hospitality. You are asked to take off your shoes and put on Japanese indoor slippers when you check into the spa. It’s a Japanese tradition to change into indoor slippers at home and traditional ryokan (spa).
They have various signature treatment programs specified for each guest’s unique physical, mental and emotional requirements. I chose the Tomoko Massage, which promotes a holistic balance by addressing the energy of medium tissues, combining Swedish techniques with Japanese traditions.

Before treatment, guests are served a welcome detox ginger tea, detox water and a light treat (chocolate) in the lounge. This is what makes Tomoko special. You are invited to relax before the massage even begins. Every other spa, I always feel rushed. This spa is the only place that they ensure you have a chance to decompose before you set in the massage room.
The Tomoko Massage starts with a 15-minute detox foot bath (Ashiyu) with tea, and you change into a yukata (traditional Japanese housecoat). It really feels like you are in a ryokan. “The massage introduces an oiled palm stroke with circular thumb movements to tired muscles, aiding the body’s mobility. A warm stone treatment on your back releases further tension, followed by the true highlight of the Tomoko: The Japanese Sake treatment, rebalancing internal body systems via an enhanced focus on the energy centers of the face.” Each massage room has a shower including amenities.
After your treatment, you are served brown tea with various light treats like mochis (Japanese rice cake) in the lounge. You take a minute or two relaxing before going back to daily life.
Another thing that’s unique about Tomoko Spa is it’s couple massages + sushi. The couple’s private suite has a private shower and tub. It includes sushi and Japanese dessert after the spa treatment.
The Tomoko spa treatments make a great holiday gift or birthday treat, I can assure you. I can’t wait to go back. It’s pricey but totally worth it for special occasions. Let’s just call it a wellness investment. But it would be if the spa also included a sauna or steam room.
I can’t wait to hear about your unique massage treatments.
