This blog post “Top 5 Meditation Classes in Los Angeles” was originally published on April 25, 2019, and updated on as of August 8, 2020.

Meditation is the new hot yoga. It is one of the hottest wellness trends in LA. It is not surprising since it’s good for the body and the mind. Meditation is a great healing practice to achieve mental clarity. Additionally, it is an amazing stress relief activity. Meditation for beginners is easy; it’s just a matter of finding the right studio. I have been on a quest to find the best meditation classes in Los Angeles. Here is what I have found so far!

How Do You Meditate? Nothing Is Holding You Back

Meditating is much easier than you think. The first rule is: DON’T OVERTHINK IT. Simply, sit, close your eyes, and practice. Then stay focused on your breathing. The rest will come to you. I highly recommend guided meditation for beginners. The instructor will give you the clues and tools to let go and relax.

How Many Types of Meditation are There?

There are basically two types of meditation. You can choose between guided and unguided meditation. In guided meditation, the instructor will guide you through the basic steps of the practice. This is the type of meditation that I recommend for beginners. The instructor’s guidance is the key for beginners to get the most out of the experience.

In unguided meditation — also called silent meditation — you meditate alone in silence. This type of meditation is good for you if you already have learned from previous meditation experiences.

02. Meditation Classes in Los Angeles: The DEN Meditation

Locations: La Brea and Studio City

DEN Meditation is a stylish studio with yoga classes and meditation workshops. What you will notice about this studio is its stylish interior. The meditation classes have posh mats and pillow bags. The La Brea location is located in a busy neighborhood with tons of shops and restaurants nearby. So, this neighborhood has plenty of dinner options for you after your meditation workshop. However, it’s hard to find parking before class starts. So get there a few minutes early to find a spot nearby. Most of the meditation workshops are guided. But some are not! I prefer guided meditation workshops. I don’t get much out of sitting in silence classes. It is probably a class preferred by advanced students vs meditation for beginners. For sure, I would love to go back to try the CBD workshop (which is good for anxiety) and Reiki (energy shifting).

Essential Items for Meditation for Beginners

Meditation for Beginners will love this meditation kit that has everything a beginner needs.

Crystal Water Bottle: Crystals have healing powers and will go with the vibe of any meditation class. But don’t show up with a plastic bottle.

A comfortable outfit to enjoy the class in peace.

In case you are more cautious about health safety, I suggest taking your own packable yoga mat or yoga towel to cover the studio’s meditation pillow.
