What to Wear to NYFW
So, You Got In BUT What Will You Wear! As soon as the runway show invites start rolling in, you are wondering what to wear to NYFW. Here are a few fashion week inspirations to help to make the decision process easier. I can’t tell you what to wear, but I can give you tips to help you decide what you should or shouldn’t wear.
For those of us who have attended, we know NYFW is not as glamorous as it seemed on Sex and the City. It can get stressful. But still as exciting. So, I have

BEFORE THE SHOWS
It’s best to prepare in advance. Prepare for outfits, schedule and so on. I did it in a week, but I had to scramble. I don’t suggest going to NYFW stressed out.
Right now, runway show invites are poping-in your mailbox. You should RSVP to shows as soon as possible. It means the difference between Standing or Priority Standing. Priority Standing will more likely to get you into an overbooked show. PR agencies sometimes overbook shows, which means not everyone invited gets in.
Outfits to Wear to NYFW
COLOR. COLOR. COLOR. You want to wear “color” since color pieces photograph better. You want to wear what’s on-trend for that season. You want to wear super lavish pieces to catch the photographer’s attention. But most importantly, you should show up as your authentic self.
Here are few inspirations for the February shows:
If you are going to the February shows and are from the west coast, I got two words for you: Uniqlo Heattech. You can layer Uniqlo Heattech tops or leggings under your outfit to keep warm during single-digit NYC weather. I usually choose Extra Warm.

Best Handbag to Wear to NYFW
The lighter and smaller your handbag is the better. A small clutch could mean the difference between getting seated vs standing, catching the eye of a photographer and comfort all day long. As a newbie, you will want to take a tote with you to fit your comfortable shoes in it or maybe a camera for a photo shoot after the show. But bigger bags get in the way. Therefore, the PR reps give preference to influencers with smaller bags if there are seats available. I was at a smaller runway show where the photographers kept yelling at influencer in the front row to remove her bag since it was running their shots of the models walking down the runway. I have seen girls that just show up with a camera and no bag!.
Also, I noticed the photographers camped outside of the shows were more likely to photograph girls with no bag or a smaller bag.
Best Shoes to Wear to NYFW
Comfortable shoes will take you a long way. I can stress enough how important comfortable shoes are! Mostly, you have a “standing” ticket, which means standing up to 1/2 hour to get into the show, another 1/2 for the actual show and 1/2 hour to get out of the show. I made a mistake and wore high heels one day but I couldn’t walk after 4 pm. The rest of the days I wore kitten heels.
OTHER INSIDER TIPS
You can’t make it to every single show on your schedule. The show will
At the same time, you will no be able to get into all of the shows you have a ticket to since some are overbooked. That’s why you should get arrive 20-30 minutes before start time to beat the crowd. This is where Priority Standing will help you.
Hopefully, you will have a smooth and hassle-free time at your first NYFW. Remember the most important part: Have fun and make it memorable.
